Q: What are the printing sizes for banners?
-
Our digital printers have a maximum print width of 1250mm. As the material comes off a continious roll we can theoretically print for 50 meters. This however would be impractical. Generally we don’t like to print anything longer than 5000mm in any one run.
Just remember that we can set up overlaps in the prints, so joining larger panels is simple and a great solution should your print exceed 5000mm x 1200mm.
-
Q: What does bleed mean in printing process?
-
Bleed is a term used for the amount of ‘overlap’ of the image you need to setup in your artwork when taking it to print. There is almost always error in registration from where a printer prints and then where it cuts. A small amount of bleed means any minute error will not show up around the finished cut line. Generally no more than 3mm bleed is required for your printing requirements

Q: What is a trim line for printing?
-
The trim line is the line setup in your file that you would like us to cut on. Ideally this is set as a separate layer and is supplied as a vector based file. A magneta stroke on the line helps us identify the cut line.
-
Q: What stocks are available for my printing requirements?
-
We print on a wide rage of materials – Paper, card, Self adhesive vinyl, banner PVC, canvas, trilogal and polyester. Even Static Cling. Remember, If you can think it, chances are we can print it.
-
Q: What type artwork files do we accept for your printing requirements?
-
We can work with more file types, but different files will give different results.
The ideal file type would be an illustrator eps with fonts converted to curves (no later than CS3). This ensures any cut lines or colour editing can be done with a mimimum of fuss. A high res PDF generated from Illustrator should be just as good. Also remember to flatten all transparency as this can cause issues in our RIP.
If your artwork isn’t set to the above send it through and we can advise how best to set it up for an optimal print result.
Microsoft based programs such as word, powerpoint and Excel are NOT suitable for printing from. Pivot can assist with your design and artwork needs. Call us to discuss further.
-
Q: What type of printing process for my banners, pull ups, tear drop baners, a frames, coreflutes, etc is used?
-
We have a number of different processes at our disposal at Pivot Creative for your banners, pull ups, tear drop baners, a frames, coreflutes . The bulk of our work is printed using a digital printer. This is a 6 colour machine printing using 4 colour process with Light Cyan and Light Magenta. These extra colours mean we can achieve a greater range of colours than a traditional 4 colour machine.
This is a hybrid machine which allows us to contour cut our prints, eliminating the expensive costs associated with die cutting.
We can also have a machine that prints using a thermal transfer process. Again this is a print cut machine and it allows us to print white, chrome and golds.
